Back to School with Essential Oils

I’m going to talk about a favorite subject to many Moms: Back to school! A great time of year for many different reasons. No more trying to keep little minds constantly entertained, no more guilt about screen time, no more forkin’ out money for summer camps. The air is turning crisp, leaves are changing, there’s pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING….EVERYWHERE! All is good in the world.

Until it isn’t.

Unfortunately, back to school season is also cold/flu season. Have you ever looked around at drop off? Almost every kid is coughing, snotty and sneezy. Yes it’s disgusting, but I’m ok with it! I’ve got my Mama tool belt full and ready for the school year! Every day before school I roll our immunity roller on my son’s feet & spine. At pick up he sprays his hands with our handy Germ Away Spray. Now I hate to sound like a germaphobe because I definitely am not. Actually, I am all about playing in the dirt and only washing hands after using the bathroom or before you eat because I believe it is good for children’s immune systems, but during cold/flu season it’s a little different. We do this to stay above the wellness line because really, who has time to be sick?

Another Mom hack I use for back to school is a Focus Roller. I apply this to the back of my son’s neck and behind his ears. The name is pretty self explanatory. It helps him stay focused and concentrate. The Focus Roller is also great to use during homework time. Depending on the day I might also put some calming oils in the diffuser during homework time. Usually it is also dinner time and meltdown time for my 3 year old, so most days the calming oils are necessary.

Here are some back to school mama-tool-belt recipes:
•Immunity Roller- 10 drops Thieves, 10 drops Lemon, 10 drops Frankincense in a 10ml roller bottle. Fill rest with a carrier such as fractioned coconut oil.
•Germ Away Spray- 15 drops Thieves in a 4oz spray bottle. Fill rest with water.
•Focus Roller- 10 drops Vetiver, 10 drops lavender in a 10ml roller bottle. Fill rest with carrier oil.
•Calming Diffuser Blend-5 drops Peace & Calming, 5 drops Orange.

I get my rollers here!

Need to get yourself some oils to help your family stay well this school year? You can get oils for your own mama tool belt here!

Happy oiling!

DIY Essential Oil After-Sun Spray

Summer is upon us and one of the best parts of this season is the SUN, am I right?! This means beach days, pool time, camping and so many other fun outdoor activities! Soaking up that vitamin D is great for our bodies, but too much sun can be hard on our skin. We LOVE using essential oils to help promote healthy, glowing summer skin in our home! This homemade after-sun spray helps sun-kissed skin recover and is very soothing!

You’ll need:

  • 4 oz spray bottle
  • 5-10 drops each of Lavender (calming, helps skin recover) and Peppermint (cooling and soothing. For little ones under two try gentle baby in place of peppermint)
  • 2 oz of pure aloe vera
  • 1 tsp of witch hazel
  • water

Add all the ingredients to the bottle, shake, spray on the skin as needed and gently rub in!

I find that when I use this spray twice a day after being in the sun I don’t peel much, if at all! Both lavender and peppermint are in the Premium Starter Kit, which is the best way to get started with oils if you’re hoping to get some just in time for summer! After-sun spray is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ways you can use essential oils. You can read more about the amazing benefits of oils and how to use them here!

DIY Teacher Gifts with Essential Oils

It’s nearing the end of the school year… the time when a lot of parents like to do something special for the wonderful people who taught their children all year long! In place of the usual gifts like candies in a coffee mug, I have a couple of refreshing DIY ideas for you guys! When we give gifts we want them to be meaningful or useful and these items are both! We will be making a non toxic room spray, a calm roller and an energy roller. Who doesn’t need to freshen up the air somewhere in their house? The room spray can be used anywhere in the home and will fend off odors naturally and safely. And we know some of these teachers will be needing both a calm and energy roller if they are going to be teaching summer school!

The Calm Roller
For when they need a little relaxation in their life. This Calm Roller is a blend of Lavender and Stress Away. Stress Away is a blend of Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Vanilla, Ocotea, and Lavender. Lavender and Cedarwood are known for promoting calmness. Copaiba is known for amplifying the effects of other oils. All of these oils smell amazing when put together. They promote a sense of peace and help to de-stress!

Recipe:
10ml Glass Roller Bottle
10 drops Lavender essential oil
10 drops Stress Away essential oil
Fill the rest with carrier oil (like grapeseed oil or coconut oil)
Pop the roller ball fitment on top of the bottle until it clicks, screw the cap on and you’re done!

The Energy Roller
For when they need something to invigorate the mind and senses! The Energy Roller is a blend of Peppermint and Orange essential oils! A whiff of peppermint is energizing and will help revitalize them. Orange is inspiring and goes well with peppermint. This is the go to roller for when they need something to perk them up in the morning or get them through those last few hours of the day!

Recipe:
10ml Glass Roller Bottle
10 drops Peppermint essential oil
10 drops Orange essential oil
Fill the rest of the bottle with a carrier oil like grapeseed oil or coconut oil (or the carrier oil of your choice)

Room Spray!
Freshen up the room! Your child’s teacher can use this spray throughout their home or classroom to freshen up the air and eliminate odors! Purification is a blend of Citronella, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Tea Tree, Lavandin, and Myrtle essential oils.

Recipe:
2oz glass spray bottle
10 drops Purification essential oil
1 teaspoon witch hazel
2 oz distilled water
Mix all ingredients together and you are good to go!

You can find pretty glass bottles and rollers on Amazon for a great price. Add a nice little label to the spray bottle and rollers so they know what they are! Don’t forget the teacher’s aides who are near and dear to your hearts too!

Easy Essential Oil DIY gifts for Mom

Every mama appreciates feeling happy and loved, so what if you could give her a gift that would do just that? Essential oils harness the powerful ability to support our hormones, relieve stress, and influence our emotions. So, with Mother’s Day right around the corner, we’ve got a super fun and easy way to celebrate the special women in your life with some simple, essential oil DIY projects.

Mama Roller
When applied over the heart, on the wrists, and back of the neck, the combination of essential oils in this Essential Oil roll-on will make mama literally feel happy and grounded. The combination of Joy, Bergamot, Frankincense, and Orange leaves behind a slightly floral, citrusy aroma with an undertone of earthiness that makes this the perfect fragrance and can be worn daily as a perfume.

Supplies:
– 10 mL glass roller like this
– Carrier Oil (V-6, jojoba, and fractionated coconut oil are great options)
– Essential Oils: 10 drops Joy, 10 drops Bergamot, 10 drops Frankincense, and 10 drops Orange

Add essential oils to glass roller then top with carrier. Add a cute label and you’re all set.

Relaxing Bath Salts
Alone time is something that every mama craves and what better way to unwind than with a nice, warm, calming bath? Add a glass of wine and you’re sure to make her smile. All she has to do is add ½ c. of the bath salts to her bath while the water is running and the essential oils will do the rest.

Supplies:
– 1c. Epsom Salt
– 1. Tbsp. Baking Soda
– Essential Oils: 5 drops Stress away and 5 drops Lavender.

Add epsom salt to a small bowl and gently stir in essential oils. Once thoroughly combined, stir in baking soda. Pour into a mason jar, tie on a cute tag, and pop it in a bag with the Mama Roller! Oh, and don’t forget to add a card, too!

Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils: DIY Scented Dryer Balls

When we first started using essential oils I thought they were only useful for physical health needs. We started using them for sleep support, stress, heart health, digestive health, immune support and more, but then I realized just how versatile they are and started reading more and more about many nasty chemicals in our home. Yup. That’s right. Unfortunately, there are LOTS of harmful toxins inside many common products that most of us have in our home.

According to Dr. Mercola, “Most personal care products on the market contain toxic chemicals like parabens, phthalates, and triclosan – chemicals linked to hormonal imbalance, toxicities, reproductive health problems, and even cancer.” This includes many scented care products, such as dryer sheets. Our clothing and skin absorb these chemicals and can cause a laundry list (ha. see what I did there?) of health problems. Scary stuff! I don’t know about you, but I want safer alternatives for my family.

Enter essential oils. I learned that they can be used for SO many things, including home and personal care! We have now replaced almost every single health, cleaning and personal care product in our home with an essential oil based product. Since fragrances in common products are some of the most potentially harmful chemicals, one of the first changes we made was in our laundry room by replacing our dryer sheets with wool dryer balls. We add essential oils to them to keep our clothes smelling amazing! Dryer balls are free of any chemicals, help reduce drying time (and my gas bill!) and leave our clothes soft and smelling fresh!

It’s easy to do:

Simply add 6-8 drops of oil onto the dryer balls (we use 6 balls for a large load and less for smaller ones) and toss them in with your clothes. Add more drops as needed and change up the scent as you please. Here are some of my favorite essential oils to use:

Citrus Fresh
Lavender
Purification
Orange
Lemon
Thieves
Christmas Spirit

There are so many great oils you can try! Just another way to use your essential oils and promote a healthier lifestyle!

If you haven’t gotten started with essential oils yet, but you are ready to start your wellness journey, the BEST way to jump in is with the Premium Starter Kit. When you get your oils through our team you will get TONS of support, resources, education and be a part of a wonderful community of essential oil lovers and educators that you will learn from! We would love to have you! If you know a Young Living distributor on our For the Love team ask them for their referral link or find their page here and click on their link to order your oils.
